The control system consists of a DCS or PLC/SCADA system for all safe analog and digital signals and (mostly) a seperate safety PLC for all safety signals.
A typical automation system can be find here.
The I&C engineer will define all I/O, alarm and trip settings documents and he will write the functional description of digital and analog control loops and make an overview of the desired automation system. A clear seperation must be given of: safe, non-safe and Ex-signals.
With all developed documents hard- and software engineers of the (mostly) external automation company will make the automation system.
The I&C engineer will do a check of all automation installations at the manufacturers workshop during the pre-installation stage of the project.
